I am a skilled network engineer (CCIE) from Europe.
I heard that in Vancouver area I could probably earn 5000-6000 CAD monthly netto plus benefits and the lease for a nice house in the region would be 1700-2200
I have a wife and a baby.

Would we manage it financially from a single salary? which are the monthly costs to expect?

My wife has experience in desktop publishing/Adobe /magazines and also in online media. How is the job market in this field, also considering neither of us has previous Canadian experience?

I think you are on the low end for housing. To the best of my knowledge, rental prices are in the 2,200 to 3,000 range for an apartment (depending on 1 bedroom or two).

A lease for a house is nowhere near that low in the region. A lease for a one-bedroom apartment may start as low as $1,700, but you'll need to be in Richmond or Coquitlam.

A house for as low as even $2,200 you'll need to be in Mission.
