Hello,

My question is regarding the PR application in the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) category.

In the CEC category is the work experience considered only after receiving the work permit or the work experience is considered from the time of applying to the work permit (i.e., under implied status). In my case, I have applied for my work permit in May 2019 and started working Full-Time right after applying and I received the work permit after 8 months that is in February 2020. Currently, I have completed my one year of Canadian experience if I count from the date of applying to the work permit and I don't want to lose those 8 months of experience which I have got under implied work permit status.

In the IRCC website also it has been mentioned that the eligibility for CEC category for PR application is:
  1. The candidate should be legally eligible to work which I am
  2. The candidate shouldn't be working full time on a student status which I didn't as I have started my full-time work after applying to the work permit

Can you please advise me whether I can apply for PR under CEC category or not with the amount of Canadian experience I have got? Please answer the question and provide any insights

Hello @
apprajapati thank you for the reply. But my question is whether my implied status of a work permit can be considered as Canadian Experience for the CEC category?
Okay, when did you apply this work permit? Did you have valid work permit before or valid study permit?

Again read what's in the link : https://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=1181&top=15
There's an exact answer for this.
Thanks again for your answer but my question is not whether
'Can I work while I am waiting to receive my post-graduation work permit?'
my question is
'whether the work experience which I gained during my implied status of a work permit can be considered as Canadian Experience for the CEC category of PR application'?

Brief Explanation of my situation:
I have started my Masters in 2017 Sept and completed it in May 2019 on a study permit and I joined a full-time job immediately from May 2019 on an implied status (that is I have applied for my work permit before starting the job) and I received my work permit in February 2020. For applying to the CEC category for PR application one of the requirement is to have a year of Canadian Experience. So I would like to know if the work experience I gained on my implied status is considered for applying PR under CEC category. Otherwise, I need to wait until February 2021 to complete one year of experience as I received my work permit in February 2020.

I hope this makes it clear

The link clearly says
You can work full-time while waiting for a decision on your post-graduation work permit application if, at the time you submitted your application, you: --- had a valid study permit

Don't you fall under this condition? Since you applied for PGWP while you hold active study permit? and if you are confused then "waiting for a decision" means "implied status" here and since you meet that condition your experience is valid for CEC.

Oh okay got it, thank you for the explanation, much appreciated.

Hi @apprajapati and @Ganesh Vedula
I have a question regarding employment reference letter for CEC, I took EI benefits for two months and was not working due to COVID, then I started working again after 2 months with the same employer and at the same position. So, do I need two letters of employment? Because I heard that after EI states end of employment and then employer rehire?
