Hey Guys ,

I currently live in Canada. In October 2016 I sent in my OUTLAND application.

The only reason I chose OUTLAND is because of the faster processing times.

With the new faster processing times being announced, am I able to switch my application to INLAND?

This way I would be able to apply for a work permit while waiting for the PR to arrive.

If I can switch my application to INLAND, how would I go about doing it?

Thanks :)

You can't switch between the two, you'd have to withdraw your application and create a new one.

The theory is that from early next year, any new applications (inland or outland - which would no longer be different, with a common application) will have an 80% within one year target, and old ones will continue to be processed first-come-first served. Which means you'd be going to the back of the queue if you did re-submit, but the queue would (hopefully) be shorter.

Depending on your visa office, if you submitted two months ago, there probably isn't a huge amount of time difference between just waiting for PR outland, and cancelling, refiling inland, and getting a work permit inland.

80% isn't a static number. It's based on the 20% approximation of "complex" cases.

@OP: Just wait your turn. Your case will be processed before October 2017 (all backlog cases are to be completed by December 2017). To pull and refile would only cause you delay.

in order to do that, you have to withdraw your current application and then reapply with the current inland packet. i wouldn't advise doing this since they just announced the two streams are being combined into 1 application now.

there are bound to be new rules associated with the open work permit, and as of december 15, it could be that ALL applicants in canada during their process is eligible for the owp. we don't know yet and it's ill advised to rush into any decisions. it is unknown how they are going to differentiate eligibility if there is no longer an "inland" and "outland" specific application.

if you are that concerned about getting an OWP, then the step to take would be to withdraw your current application and reapply with the new packet when it comes out next week. i don't see what benefit this would have for you, as it would essentially waste months of time for your processing.
