I am looking to apply for Canadian citizenship - I was born in Scotland, UK but my Mum was born in Canada in the 1960s. Although she was born there she has only a British passport as her family moved back to Scotland a couple of years after she was born. She has never formally renounced her Canadian citizenship.

I am unsure if either of my grandparents were citizens of Canada (we think not) at the time of my Mum's birth, but my granddad was working as a Doctor in Canada and I have his place of work.

I have read everything I can find online but am unclear on whether my grandparents not being Canadian citizens at the time of my Mum's birth could have an affect on my application for citizenship? And is my Mum's Canadian birth certificate evidence enough to prove she is Canadian (and I am therefore first generation)?

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

You did not say when you were born http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/citizenship/rules_2009.asp

Sorry, I was born in 1991. I know it would appear that I am eligible, just looking for confirmation from people that have more experience than myself in these matters!

You are Canadian already. Apply for a citizenship certificate if you need proof and once you get that, you can apply for Canadian passport.
