I am Chinese. The English name on my birth certificate is Tai Man Lau, and the alias I use in daily life is Andy. Recently, when I renew my Chinese passport, the officer append my alias Andy to my birth name, so now the name on my passport become Tai Man Andy Lau.

My question is, from IRCC perspective, does this considered name change? Do I need to acquire legal document to support it?

Thanks in advance for any input.

Yes, otherwise how would you justify name difference in other docs as compared to the passport.

You can either do a legal name change or fix your passport.

Thanks. I am a work permit holder in Canada now. May I ask which document I can acquire in Canada to prove that the two names refer to the same person?
What did you have in your work permit? I would think it's easier to apply for a new passport with the legal name. (it was an error IMO)

legal name change application depends on province. I don't know the exact steps.
