I am considering applying for this program. I don't live in Canada. This is supposed to be an intense program lasting 10 months.

My question: Because the length of the PGWP is supposed to vary in accordance with the length of the program, I would appreciate it very much if alumni of this program who are international students can chip in about the length of the PGWP they have received. Has anybody managed to get a PGWP longer than 10 months?

I am not an Alumni but applied to this program this year and unfortunately my application was not selected. However, I will be able to answer your question. The PGWP duration is 1 year.

Thanks for your reply. Can I ask where did you get this information?

After your reply, I am reconsidering whether it is a good idea to apply to this program. One year for a PGWP sounds tight. Will employers even hire people who can only work legally for one year?

Hey, I am not in the program but I was looking at it before I chose the one that I am in right now. BC has a Tech Pilot stream when certain graduates graduates have a straight PNP path. the UBC MDS is one of those programs that allows for that.

Thanks tapperb. To follow up on your answer, what if the student hasn't been issued an invitation (through PNP) within a year? Won't the permit expire anyway?

Um.. not sure what you mean. I think it's a guaranteed path. The thing is graduates of this program are exactly the type of people Canada wants to keep around. If not then, obviously you are eligible for 10 months PGWP. I suspect you would even be eligible for LMIA type of jobs given the difficulty of the program.

So what if I do Masters from one of these Universities mention in the link but my program is not listed? Then what are my options for PR? Through Express Entry?

Your PGWP will be the length of of the time you studied i.e. the amount listed on your LOA. If that is 10 months then yes your PGWP will be 10 months.
The PGWP for this program is 1 year. I have attended one info session before applying to this program and there many prospective students have asked this question and prof replied saying that students in the past received 1 year of PGWP but it is pure at the discretion of the govt policies.
