Last thing we are waiting on is for her fingerprints and background check to come back. She is an american citizen and I am by birth a Canadian citizen. When going through her package she raised a question that even I was unaware as the wording is confusing.

She is wondering whether she checks off spouse or principal applicant, to me I would say for her to check off the spouse option because I'm assuming I am the principal applicant, any clarification on this would be greatly helpful:)

You, the Canadian citizen are the sponsor. You do the application to sponsor.

Your wife is the principal applicant. She is the one that does the application for a permanent resident visa.

It can be confusing at first. Each of you does an application and they are sent in together. I am sure it is very common for the sponsor to fill in the forms for the principal applicant and gather all the documentation necessary. Just remember that the visa application is done from the point of view of the foreign spouse.

yeah that is very confusing, so i get from your post she should check off principal applicant in her package and i'll let her know that

so in what scenario would a person check off the second option being spouse of the principal applicant, would that be if i were a grandparent and i was sponsoring her being the principal applicant and she was married and wanting to bring her husband over also?
