Hi all,

I'm Tim, new here, from Ireland.

Basically I am going to be doing a Bsc in computer science this year, so in 4 years time I hope to emigrate to Canada and get a job in the IT idustry in Toronto or Vancouver, I have wanted to move to one of those cities since I was little :D

What I'm here to ask is, upon graduation, if I manage to get a job in Canada, will it be easy for me to get permanent status? I speak fluent English, and I speak bacic French now, but am going to take a course in French in college, so it should improve substanially by them time I try to get into Canada.

So, If I were to get offered a job in Canada, is that all I need? just said off the application with the employers blessings, and I have permission to live in Canada?

Many Thanks,

Tim :)

If you get an official job offer in BC (AEO) you can use it to apply for your permanent resident status under the BC PNP. In ON the PNP is not that advanced last time I looked. If you qualify to apply as an FSW, you can also use an AEO for that.

You don't really need French unless you live in Quebec which is another possibility, apply for Quebec skilled worker and then you don't need a job offer but you might have to stay in Quebec for a while, at least to say you looked for a job there in case somebody asks.

Read all about it at the Canada immigration website at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/index.asp

Many thanks for your reply :)

So basically what you are saying:

British Colombia - If I get a job offer, this will benefit me greatly in getting me permenant status?
Ontario - It's not as advanced as BC, and I have no garuntee that it will help?

As for Quebec, if I advance my French skills, I can possibly get in without having a job?

I have navigated the site you linked to, and did a eligibility points tests and got the required amount of points. Is that just preliminary, or is it basically, if you get enough points, and apply all the information to an immigration form, you have a great chance of getting in?

I noticed to apply to live in Quebec you do a seperate application, is there a points tool, to calculate your eligibilty for that? as far as I can see there isn't.

Cheers

Here u'll find the information about the new PNP in Ontario. Still a pilot PNP but did some major changes in February. Among other things they just changed it from 500 to 1000 applications per year. U are also able to apply in all Skill Level A, B or 0 cathegories. (Before it was regulated to 20 specific professions)

Yes, that is basically what I was saying. Or basically, if you qualify for FSW with the points and you get a job offer (AEO) from any province except Quebec, you can apply as an FSW. If you have enough points and you pass your medical, you shouldn't have a problem getting in.

If you don't qualify for FSW but you get an AEO from BC, you can apply for PR through their PNP program. Same thing, if you qualify, you are pretty much in.

As for Quebec, their points thing is at http://www.immigration-quebec.gouv.qc.ca/en/immigrate-settle/permanent-workers/epi.html

Thanks lads,

I look forward to coming to Canada :D

And I will definately give some thoughts to going to Quebec, I am eligible according to that test.

I really appreciate it :)
