Hi everyone! I have a question about extending my status as a visitor.

Application sent: March 9
Application recieved: March 12

My boyfriend is sponsoring me as his common law spouse. He is a Canadian citizen and I am a United States citizen. I currently am on an IEC working holidays work permit, which ends on April 13. I sent in an OWP application along with the PR application. When do I need to apply to extend my visitor status so that I am not "out of status"?

You're fine as long as your application is complete and isn't returned.

I would apply to change your status to visitor before your IEC expires. This buys you "insurance" in case your PR + OWP application is returned as incomplete.

You don't need to extend your status if your application is accepted. You will be on "implied status" till a decision is made. If your application is returned, you will need to extend your status before the 13th of April.

It is also possible to restore status up to 90 days after your status expires, so you could just wait it out.
