Hi, I have a question about mailing my application to my sponsor.

On the guide to immigrating (IMM 3999) it states:

  • Put the completed forms, supporting documents required for your sponsor in a 23 cm x 30.5 cm (9″ x 12″) envelope.
  • Send your completed application to your sponsor’s Canadian address.

How strict are they on the size of the envelope? I can only find ones that a little bit bigger than what they've stated on the guide (about a centimetre each way). I may even have to get a bulkier envelope as I've included so much documentation that I'm worried the envelope will tear in transit! Would that be acceptable to them?

Also, is my sponsor allowed to open the envelope when she receives it to make sure that everything made it ok? The guide simply says that she had to forward it on, so I don't know if they'll reject the application if it's been opened or not... Also, one of her forms that she's filled out, I have to sign too, so I was going to print it, sign it, and send it off with all of my documents.

You're only sending the forms to your sponsor, so send them in whatever you want as long as they get there safe and sound. When your sponsor then forwards the forms to the CPC-M they should make sure that everything is how it should be, but I don't think they are strict about what it's shipped in. For example my application + proof of relationship and everything else never would have fit in a 9x12 envelope and I know lots of other people on here are the same way and we sent ours in a big bubble mailer and others use boxes.

Just make sure it gets there in one piece and you'll be just fine =) And get tracking!

Oh and also, it's fine for your sponsor to open the forms, just make sure everything makes it into the final package that gets sent off. It's better to have someone double check for you anyway. Don't worry, you're in the home stretch now! You should feel relieved very very soon =)

Woohoo, thanks Shylox. :)

I so can't wait to get this sent off... These forms have consumed the last month of my life!

I definitely understand you, it feels great to finally send off the forms. Good luck with your application =)
