Hey everybody,

I'm just starting to fill out all the forms and reading all the posts here on this forum. I'm Dutch and my boyfriend wil sponsor me.

My application has to go through Vienna Austria and I'm wondering how much chence you have that they call you in for an interview. Since Austria is not really right next door I was wondering if they take that under consideration at all.

In what cases do thay call you in for an interview?

Does anybody know?

They'll call you in for an interview if your application brings up any red flags such as large age difference, many previous marriages, big difference in culture, previous sponsorship of a different partner etc, short time together, arranged marriage etc

If its relatively straight forward relationship with no 'red flags' as they are called, then you probably won't get called for an interview.

Another thing is if the dates seem off. My friend got called in because her dates were off on the application (when they worked, when they lived together etc) so keep an eye on the dates you write :) And re-read it like 10 times haha

Thank you for the info :)

Well, my boyfriend is 14 years older than me. But we are going to send lots of pictures of us together along with the application, on those pictures we look really happy together, so I hope that they can see that our relationship is genuine.

My boyfriend had two marriages before I became his girlfriend. I didn't have any marriages or boyfriends before him. I hope that his previous marriages are not a problem.

That depends. Did he have to sponsor any of them to Canada? if yes, did the relationships end shortly after they received PR and arrived in Canada?

Pure bad luck in relationship choices is one thing, a serial sponsor of foreign national spouses is another. Know and understand your sponsor's relationship history and make sure you address upfront ANY and ALL items which may cause an IO to question this current relationship.

My boyfriend has never been a sponsor before. His ex wife did sponsor him when they moved from the USA to Canada. But their relationship didn't end shortly after that.

How long now has it been since he landed? If it's less than 5 years, he can't sponsor you, even if he is a citizen now. There is now a sponsorship bar in place preventing sponsored persons from sponsoring a new spouse within 5 years of their own landing. If it's been more than 5 years since he went to Canada, then he will be eligible to sponsor you.

Thank you for your respons. It has been over 15 years ago since he's landed so this would be good.
