Hi,

I am a Permanent Resident of Canada and I am going to get married in this December. My spouse will start her Masters in a Canadian University as an international student from January, 2015. Now, my question is, if I submit her PR application in January, 2015 after her arrival in Canada, how long it could take for getting her PR? I will highly appreciate if you can share any web links with me having the corresponding information as well.

Thank you very much in anticipation of some early replies.

Best Regards,

James

It's impossible to predict anything regarding timelines that far about in the future, as they change quite frequently.

Are you planning to submit an Inland or Outland application?

Currently, Inland applications are taking ~9 -10 months for stage 1 approval (AIP, or Approval In Principle), followed by stage 2 approval within ~ 8 months or so.

Outland applications are typically faster, depending on your spouse's country of origin. It's a bit confusing but s/he can submit an Outland application while being in Canada, provided that s/he maintains legal status for the duration of the process.

Thank you very much for your prompt reply. I am planning to submit an inland application for her. But, could you please tell me more about the procedures of Outland application (i.e., how long it could take)? It would be great if you can also share some web links having these information.

Thank you once again!

you may wanna check this:

outland step 1 is less than a month, but second stage depends on the country of origin. if you say she's comming to canada, well if you apply outland and she comes here, in case they need an interview, the interview will be done at the country of origin, not in canada. you may wanna reconsider applying inland. may be longer but if she is comming to study anyway at least you'll be together.
