Is there any guideline from CIC that the Visitor Record extension application cannot be submitted prior to 90 days from the expiry date of the current VR?
I am on Work Permit in Canada while I need to extend my son's (dependent) Visitor Record as per my WP date.

His current VR is expiring in mid-March-2013. Is it true that I cannot apply before mid-Dec-2012 for his VR extension?
Thanks for the help.

In my experience, it will lock you out online. Don't know about paper applications.

You only need to submit it 30 days prior. Online usually comes back within a month. (3 weeks for me woo!) even if you go paper, as long as the application is in process your son will have implied status. He won't have to leave Canada unless the VR is rejected (or he is deported for another reason).

Here is the page about it. It is for TRV but works the same for a VR.

When did you apply?

The current processing times for vistor applications look ridiculously long at the moment, 71 days for online and 97 for paper :o

What is going on there? Like you say was about 3 weeks, that's how long it took for me to hear back from 2 VR extentions in January and May of this year, since then processing times seem to be getting longer and longer.

Like you say though you get implied status so doesn't really matter, I would just leave it until a month before.

Just glad I don't have to mess around with VR's, at least for 6 month anyway they let me in a couple of weeks back with just a passport stamp. ;D

The border is too far for a flagpole for me. Plus my VR is a year :).

I have no idea why I get my VR back so quick, but I'm not complaining.
