Hello all,

I have a question regarding the work permit for Canada. I have applied for PR for canada and so far received acknowledge from them. Looks like its going to take another 4-5 months to get the PR. Presently, I am in US working for an Indian company. Now my company is planning to send me back to India after 3-4 months so I am planning to move to Canada now itself through work permit. I wanted to know how market is in Canada considering the companies offering work permit. I am an IT professional with good years of experience. Is it a realistic plan to try for companies that can offer me work permit so that I can go there before getting my PR. I have no idea about the IT market in Canada so thought of checking with you experts.

Please suggest. I do not want to go to India right now as that will badly affect my PR process.

Why it will affect your PR process? Which CHC is processing your case?

For WP you should see this, http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/special-tech.asp

If you are in any of above category, you only need to secure a job (without LMO process).

I don't think there will be any issue with your PR if you file for work permit. I have read one or two cases where in the work permit was issued even when PR was in progress... so i don't think there is cause of worry.

Thanks for responding. If I go back to India, my PR processing would be shifted to New Delhi office and I heard about some cases where it took more than 4-5 months for this shifting. So I thot moving CA on work permit would be a better option over going back to India. I am an IT professional and I fall under the skilled labour category. My question is how the market is in Canada if we talk about the companies filing WP for their employees ? If companies are doing that on a noraml basis then it would be a good option for us to go to Canada on WP . Please let us know.

A WP application would not affect your PR application.

However, only a few firms are willing to go the distance to getting you a WP. They will have to go thru HRSDC to get an LMO which you will include in your WP application. Another route might be to go thru the PNP. With Provincial nominations, you can get a WP. Some provinces will give you a PN if you have a job offer, amongst other requirements.
