I have a colleague who lives up there (Villeray). He was telling me it is the new Plateau. Montreal real estate is getting out of control.

Ahhhhh the PQ government. Pauline Marois is digging her own grave. There is a growing shift to Option nationale. This means that the already weak separatist vote is now fractured.

On top of which, she is slashing and burning to get down to deficit zero. This does not bode well in a province that is typically left of centre.

It is a really nice area. It's more quiet than the plateau though, and I hope that it stays that way.

And I would love to get into politics, but I shall refrain because I don't want to confuse this poor girl.

Thank you both for all the info. It is a shame that I wouldn't be eligible for french courses like immigrants in Quebec...but this is just the way it is! My boyfriend is french speaking so he will have to be my free teacher! He has already watched quite a few shows from Quebec so he is familiar...and we visited new brunswick last year...so I think he knows what hes in for!!

I think the change will be good for us and for our future! Being from the westcoast, Quebec is a huge change for me and I would be lying if I said I wasn't intimidated by what I hear on the news etc. about the issues between anglophones and francophones. It seems like alot of it is just politics and most people live in harmony...is this your experience?

For work, I do have some contacts in Vancouver that are from Montreal that may be able to help me out so I am sure it will all be okay!

I live in a VERY french part of Québec, and the people here tend to be very nice. I always try in French (I had NO french when we moved here in July, but I'm slowly learning), and people are generally very patient and kind. Some (generally younger people) are even excited to practice their limited english with me.
