I am a new immigrant and I have recently come to Canada with my family. I need to travel abroad now. How long can I stay outside Canada. I heard that according to the new rule, an immigrant can not stay outside Canada for more than 180 days in the first five years. Otherwise, his permanent resident status would be affected .Is that right. If no then what is the rule regarding the travel and staying outside Canada after first entry? Let me clarify here that my family will continuously stay in Canada in my absence.

U can remain outside Canada for 3-yrs (1095 days) out of 5-yrs in a 'rolling cycle' and yet maintain ur PR status.
