Hi everyone,

I'm new here and would appreciate some info. My significant other lives in Mendoza, Argentina. We dated for 4 years all through highschool before she was forced to go back to Mendoza by her parents. Recently, I reconnected with her on Facebook (it's been 20 years) and we both realized that we still love eachother. I have since visited her and we now know for sure that we want to be together. I am aware that in order for sponsorship to work, you must prove that the relationship is genuine. My question is, how would I go about proving that we were highschool sweethearts? Is it simply a matter of contacting the school and asking for records or is there something else that I'm overlooking? We don't have any photos from back in that time, maybe just witnesses who knew us then? Any help would be appreciated.

As romantic as this sounds, CIC will not see a 20 year `past relationship' as being connected to your `new' chapter together. You can certainly mention it in your application if you want to, but IMHO you shouldn't waste too much time trying to find 20 year old `proof'. Focus on what you can assemble now, and moving forward.

Besides...if you are not living together (and had been for at least one year) you can't even sponsor her at all. You need to be common-law or married to be eligible to sponsor her.

Good luck!

You Could try to get classmates to write testimonial letters saying you two were dating in high school, but as Ponga says, I don't think CIC will attach much importance to it. They'll be more interested in what's going on lately.

And yes, your first step would be to either marry, or establish common-law by cohabiting for 12 consecutive months.

First of all for sponsor ship to work you either have to be married or common law (live together for 12mths consecutively ) ((as stated above))

Second thing you need to start keeping records of visits to each other by keeping boarding passes, and receipts while there. I am sure you take pictures with each other and with friends and family over there and here as well if she visits you. Keep those pictures for later use.

Third. Keep records of your communication with one another while your apart.

Most important part.. IS to build your RELATIONSHIP FIRST as 20yrs has passed and there will be many things different from that time.
