You have more than some people that submit their applications.

Try your best to provide what you can, even an email from HR saying they can't produce a letter is proof you tried. Imagine just trying to proof to a stranger you worked there, but someone who doesn't like you.

No I totally get that. The burden of proof is on me here and that makes perfect sense. I'm not a total stranger to these things because I sponsored my partner's UK visa application a few years ago and a lot of similar processes were involved. The problem is coordinating the gathering a lot of paperwork when you are thousands of miles away, in a different time zone, and haven't spoken to some of these companies or people in years.

It would help if my second Canadian employer would actually respond to my emails but so far I haven't received a thing. I even tried contacting my old line manager there who I had a good working relationship with but nada.

I guess my worry was if a reference letter from every employer is mandatory because if it that was the case then I would probably just have to give up now.

:'( :'( sorta true !

To be fair, it isn't their job to like or help prospective immigrants. I've actually been surprised at just how accommodating and friendly the people at the CRA and Service Canada have been when I have called them to request copies of documents over the last couple of weeks. They could have just ignored me or demanded that I made the requests formally in writing.

Indeed, CRA are very helpful.

Have you tried creating a MyCRA account? You can do so from anywhere and then you get access. You have to register and they will post a log in code to you. You should then be able to get all your old Tax stuff; T4's and NOAs.

Try calling your employer, ask someone to go into the office if you can, try faxing... just keep bugging them until they answer. However if not, provide all the email proof you can that you did contact them. 5+ emails over several weeks will show CIC you tried to get it.

I can't sadly because my SIN expired more than 2 years ago. Apparently once that happens your SIN gets archived in some way and is no longer accessible via those systems as a kind of fraud prevention measure.

I will try and call them later today since it has been almost a week since my last email to them. I was going to email the HR contact who hired me as again I had a pretty good work and social relationship with her but I think she has since moved on to a different job. She is also the person named on the job description that I have.

That's what they told me. I don't know if the system has changed though because the last guy who I spoke with at Service Canada remarked with 'wow, that's an old one' when I gave him my SIN and he had to look through a couple of different systems before he found it. It also wasn't being accepted by MyCRA when I tried to create an account.
