I'm going to have to quit my job when I go up to Canada again, but I was wondering about this:

My sister owns several businesses. She always tells me that she always holds a position for me at her business, that it's mine whenever I want it. So, I was thinking of having my sister write a notarized letter saying that even though I don't have a job right now, I can always work for her when I do return to my home country. That she will always have a position available for me.

Does this sound too informal, like it won't "hold up" with the IO? What does everyone think? Any ideas?

IMHO I doubt it will work. It would be better if you were actually employed by her then was on leave.

thank you. is there a specific reason why you don't think this would work?

Well, if you are going to quit your job then you don't have much intention of returning home.

If that is the case then asking your sister to notarize a letter that contains a false statement would not be good.
The IO could easily decide that your sister would say anything to help you. Why wouldn't she, she is family.

If you actually had a job with your sister then it would be official, with government records. She could decide to allow you unpaid leave (after a reasonable time of working).
In this case the IO could still have doubts, but you would have official documents to help prove your case.

thank you. It isn't a false statement though, she always does hold a position open for me. But I understand what you are saying. :(
