I'm gathering my paperwork for my immigration application. It's been pointed out to me that I need to include cards and letters between my husband (sponsor) and myself (applicant). I need to know if these should be the original cards and letters or if photocopies of these items are appropriate. Any input is greatly appreciated!

I suggest you not to sent originals of your proof, they can get lost in in the mail system, you can send photocopies and coloured prints that look exactly as the original and beside most VOs will not sent the proof back when the application is done
You can also explain why you are not sending the originals to let them know.

For the ID cards and passports are you sending them along with the application? i thought that certified originals are required for important documents such as the marriage certificate, birth documents, IDs, passports,...etc

All my documents are in English since I'm American. The only original I have to provide is the Police Certificate. This is from my country specific checklist, so it might be different for other people.

And no, the ID and passports are color copies, not the actual items. I need my passport as it's my legal ID in Canada.

I colour photocopied cards and letters and stated originals were not included as we wanted to keep them for sentimental reasons. Relationship photos were done at a photo place. They only cost about 4p each and I would've spent more on ink than that.

I agree with the other posters. read the guides and forms carefully.....if they say send original, do so....if it doesn't ask for original, always send a copy.

I agree with all the suggestions (including my husband's - Canadanow). The checklist shows that everything but the police checks/ certificates should be photocopies. They don't specifically talk about the evidence (what form it should be in) but you are safer not sending originals. Imagine how terrible it would be if all your original evidence got lost en-route. We made colour copies of all our documents and we also scanned what was necessary. This ensured all documents looked as good as the originals. As for photos, you can never have enough. You are better giving too much rather than too little (we sent over 500 photos).

The passport they will ask for at the last stage just before they give you the visa (if they are giving it to you).

i think that you should photo copy everything....the only original thing you going to send with your application is the police record and the medical....they will ask for the original at a later date
