Hi All,

I was wondering if there are any seniors around who can throw some light on how is Software/IT Project Manager scenario in Canada (irrespective of location)

I am a PMP certified project manager with close to 4 years of Project Management and 4 years of software development experience (Java and C/C++). The projects I have managed are mostly software product development projects (and not implementation projects like SAP implementation, Oracle implementation etc).

- So, how difficult is it to get a Software/IT Project Manager job in Canada?
- Do you think chances of getting a job might be more if I switch back to technical (programming role)
- For programming (Software Developer) roles, which are the skills/languages which are in high demand in Canada
- Also, does certificates like OCP-Java or ITIL help in expediting job search?

Thanks!!

This is my exact profile :D
I'm looking forward to the forum members for some tips

1. Choose the right NOC applicable to you from the NOC List

Ensure that you can get a reference letter matching the NOC

PMP certification, S/W development (Java and C/C++), S/W product development projects, implementing Oracle SAP ERP etc has no direct relevance
.

Who in the world can predict whether you would get, Software/IT Project Manager job in Canada?

You need to explore the opportunities yourself in Canada, through job portals. In case you have the desired skills set.. you would certainly get a job.

Why are you pessimistic..you are a S/W product development projects manager? with 4 years experience in leading S/W projects.

Why should you think of coding, programming. If situation requires you can guide with JAVA C....experience

- For programming (Software Developer) roles, which are the skills/languages which are in high demand in Canada

It's highly premature to think of the platform, language, databases etc Java C C++ are in demand. You have all the relevant experience

If need be you can learn any language as you are from OOPS background.

Offcourse any certificate consultant is preferred by employers

--- Getting IT jobs is pretty easy in Toronto and other major cities. Getting a Project manager job will be definitely more difficult than a Developer or a Senior developer. It all depends on how well you give your interview.

- Do you think chances of getting a job might be more if I switch back to technical (programming role)
--- For a Project manager job, apart from your project managerial skills, your soft skills matter a lot. It's what you like. I have seen people having 20-25 years experience working as Developers.

- For programming (Software Developer) roles, which are the skills/languages which are in high demand in Canada
--- Big Data technologies.

- Also, does certificates like OCP-Java or ITIL help in expediting job search?
--- If you want a Java developer role, then definitely OCJP will help.
