Hi Guys,

I'm a PNP nominee and I've been asked to submit my passports by my visa office. But I'm currently in USA and can't go back before the deadline to submit my passport.

I'm planning that one of my family members will carry my my passports to India as it is not allowed by law to courier my passports overseas. Is it possible to get my stamping done here in US? It seems some people who are already in Canada had followed this route but not sure if it can be done in USA.

Has someone faced this issue before? Can someone please help guide me?

Thanks,
-Can

You have to send your passports to india...there is no choice for u.

Your family member can take ur passport to india.

I have done lots of research on this topic. It seems, there is no other way. You have to send to India for stamping as that is the VO that you have selected while submitting your PR application. Whatever VO one selects at the time of application is the place where we need to send our passports for stamping. People who sent their passports to Canada visa office means that they were already working in Canada and they applied for PR when they were in Canada, so their VO was Canada. Whereas, people like you and me (atleast me for sure) were in India while applying for PR, so the VO we selected was India (New Delhi), so we need to send it to Delhi.

Even I was in the same boat. I got a job in Toronto, but since i had to submit my passport for PR stamping, so had to travel back to INdia for stamping. Now i dont know whether the job will be there for me waiting in Canada. But, cant help. This looks totally against the applicant. I think they should look into changing the rules.

BUt, till that time, we have no option but to either send passport to India or best is - travel self to India for stamping. That is the safest and best option.

Hope this helps and all the best whatever option you take.

hi vineet,

thanks for your reply. unfortunately, it is very difficult for me to go back as I'm in US on a company assigment. Also, I'm not sure how long the NDVO will take to make a decision in my case as they have also asked my experience, educational documents, medical, pcc etc along with passport.

I think I'll have to send my passports. I just want to know what is the process that I need to follow here. Also, is there a possibility that NDVO will ask for in person interview? If yes then it is going to be extremely tricky.

Also, do you know if it is ok to do medicals anywhere in the world? as I'm in US now can I get the medicals done here in US?

Heard that we need to travel back to India for passports submission. We may lose our current job if they take longer time for stamping.

Hii canimmigrate....

You should tell about your current location to NDVO. So they will send you medical in USA.
It is possible to do medical in USA.

Thanks. Yes. Did some more research and it seems medicals can be done anywhere as long as it is done by an authorized doctor.

Does anyone know if I need to inform any department/police about sending my passports to india? Checked with local police and they did not have a clue.

No need to inform anyone. Just ensure that you give an authorization letter to the person who will carry your passport. But, another question is - how will you get it back after it gets stamped? They will send the passport to your Indian mailing address.

If PR is not approved, they will cancel work permit also?!

They are asking for old passports also?

Thanks for the information. Some family member will have to bring it back to US once it is returned.
As you mentioned, I need to give an authorization letter to the person carrying. Do you what should I say in this letter? Also, the person carrying my passorts has to be a blood relative or can anyone carry with authorization letter?

Thanks for your help. appreciate.

I do not think so. Both visas are independent even if you might have recieved work permit because of your PR applicaiton.
And I believe if they approved work permit there is no reason they will reject PR.

Hi canimmigrate,

I think you can think of below two options.

1. You can request NDVO to allow you and your family to get PR visa stamped in USA. I don't know whether they accept or not, but you can try it.

2. You can request NDVO to extend your PPR dead line further. You can explain them that you are in USA for an assignment and will be getting back to India at so and so time. You can send them any supporting documentation that helps.

Last case, one of your family members need to take your passports to India and and get them stamped and then come back to USA.

Again, requesting is nothing wrong as you are really in USA now.

Thanks,
Sarayu.
