Hello. I'm kind new here. I'm not sure if this will help someone who is trying to claim refugee protection. and may be low on funds. I met a lawyer in toronto who is helping refugees on a pro bono basis. Not sure how many people they are helping but I think this may help somebody because I know how hard it can be for some of us who don't have much. I just thought I would share and can maybe help someone.

Depending on the province legal aid is available. Your initial asylum application is usually covered if you can prove that you don’t have the funds to hire your own lawyer. Subsequent applications may not be covered because legal aid has a lot of demand and only a certain amount of funds. If using a pro bono lawyer you can’t expect that they will be available to answer every call or email like a private lawyer who can bill you for any extra time they use for your case. That doesn’t mean that they will do a bad job.
And your pro bono lawyer might not be too pleased you’re offering their services in a online forum.
They probably already have a referral system set up
