It depends on your Country Specific Instructions... but I guess it's a must, i affixed mine on my photos.

I checked Appendix C and it didn't say to write anything on the photos. Look at the checklist, it will tell you. I remember the photographer having to write info on one picture but it was awhile ago and since then we have done Canadian passport pics and my brother in law has done federal skilled worker photos. All the instructions are different so I cannot remember sorry!

Include five (5) photos for each member of your family and yourself taken within the last six (6) months. Follow the instructions in your guide:
•Photos in section "Completing the Application for Permanent Residence in Canada", and
•Appendix B: Photo Specifications

I looked at everything and I guess you don't have to!

Thanks! The guide doesn't say to write on the back, but I think I will just in case...I'm sending 8 pictures...again, just in case...

I didn't write on the back of any of the photos.

I have read somewhere here that someone had to take new photos as they did write on them. I did write only on one photo and gave them some extra just in case.

So just write his full name on one of the photos? I didn't do that.
