Hello, my name is Hassan and I am originally from Ethiopia. My family used to live in Ghana because that was where my father worked. My mother, siblings and I occasionally went back to our home country to visit family. In one such visit, my mother and uncle were arrested as part of a political crackdown. They were both eventually released and my mother managed to come back to Ghana. Later, my uncle was tipped off that government agents were coming after him and he escaped into Kenya. At this point, we realized we could not return to Ethiopia and, on top of that, my father always worked under contract so we never knew when he would be released, forcing us to go back. It was because of this that it was decided that we, excluding my dad, had to come to Canada and apply for refuge. We lived away from my father as refugee claimants for close to two years but sadly and painfully our presiding judge denied us refuge. It was a hard time for us being forced to leave a country we'd grown to love and go back to the uncertainty of always being in danger of having to go back to Ethiopia. In the greatest of fortunes, my father managed to get a job in his field in the US and that is where we have all reunited.

The reason I have droned on and on about my backstory is because I want to make my situation as clear as possible. I am under 18, in Grade 11 and I am curious to know if I could come back to Canada to visit my friends or for education?

What is your current status in the US? With a failed refugee claim, it tends to be extremely difficult to be approved for either a visitor visa or a study permit. If you are in the US temporarily, I wouldn't bother applying - I think refusal is guaranteed. Once you have green card status in the US, then it will be quite different. Do you have green cards yet?

I am here with what is called a G4 Visa (international representative). I do not have a Green Card at this point. Thank you for your reply. I guess it will be a few years till I can visit my friends.
