Varies, but it can be quick. My mom got the passport request in 5 days (this was before biometrics). She got the passport back the next week. I think total time was about 12 days start to finish.
My mom-in-law just submitted her application, and she got the biometrics request the very next day. She's going to give her biometrics next week so let's see how long it takes her.
