I migrated to Canada as a permanent resident under a spouse visa one year ago.. I have two young children and now that I work full time I need some help with childcare. My aunt, who is Australian and currently resides there has offered she could come over to Canada and help me with the kids on a temporary work arrangment.

Is there a way I could be considered an 'employer' and somehow sponsor her on a temporary work visa? I don't think we want to go through the live-in caregiver program as the arrangment we will have should only last a year or less (she does not want to reside in Canada permanently). Although she is herself an experienced mom she doesn't have childcare qualifications so I think wouldn't qualify for that anyway.

She would want to arrive here in January 2013 to help me out from that time on. Are there any options for us to pursue? What would be the cost, the process and the timing involved to get a visa for her? What would I need to do to say I am an 'employer'?

You're going to have to obtain an approved LMO (labour market opinion). More information on LMOs here:

As part of this process, you'll have to advertise the position and prove you couldn't find a Canadian to do the job.
