So when I was 10, I migrated fom the UK to Canada with my parents. Less than 1 year later we returned to the UK.

I am now 33 and dual citizen of UK and Australia. When applying for eTA to travle to Canada as a visitor, I see that I still have PR.

My question is, now that I see I had PR status in the past, can I retain my PR status since Ieft Canada as a minor with my parents?

Did you tried to get ETA with both UK and Australian passport but did not work?

just my uk passport. i dont have an australian passport despite being eligible.

I'm actually unsure of the best way forward now. can i enter as PR, even if it means im reported for not meeting residency obligations? i can expect a delay at customs im sure but this is possible? will i be able to board my flight from australia ok?

Without an ETA you will not be able to board a flight to Canada given whilst you may still be a PR in the system a PR needs either a valid PR card or a PRTD document neither of which you could probably get at this point.

Your options are limited , you could fly to the US and cross the land border without need for an ETA, you could simply renounce your PR status then your ETA will be issued, you could get an Australian passport and try for an ETA.

With the Australian passport option although a few people with dual citizenship have questioned that approach being successful or not there has not been any specific feedback that I have seen. If the ETA application asks about dual citizenship then is possible they will find you are PR anyway.

As you have probably gathered age is now against you in getting PR back and even if you wanted to try you would need to be committed to the process with an intent to move to Canada , you could not maintain PR status living outside of the country.

So simplest option renounce PR.

Thanks, I understand I wont be able to retain PR. I guess my worry was applying to renounce, not having it approved in time and then having neither PR or eTA

Given the short time frame i went along to the consulate who referred me to the Visa Application Centre here in Sydney, whose advice was rather limited at best. They were able to give me an email address which ive emailed my form to. heres hoping for a quick response!
