My pr card will expire in july 2016 and i have accumulated around 4 months of time spent in canada since landing in 2011. I live in uae with my husband who is also a pr and have a canadian born child i plan to move to canada this summer just my child and i but plan to visit uae every six months. But when i move there i will have only 730 days left on my pr, do i have to stay there the 730 days consecutive to renew and maintain my status? I cannot do that as I will need to visit uae for 2 weeks evry six months to keep my uae residency as i have a husband and family there that i need to visit. Please advise! Thank you

You need 730 days (=2 years = 24 months) in any 5 year period, including your first 5 years as a PR so the key date here is your landing date.

You already spent 4 months in Canada since your landing so the question is, if you move in summer and spend another 2 months combined outside Canada (2 weeks every 6 months), will you still have 20 months in Canada on your 5 year landing anniversary?

If you do, you can apply to renew your PR card then as it should be a couple of months before your PR card expires. After that, you should not leave because once you reach your landing anniversary, the days you stayed in Canada just after landing start to move outside this 5 year window and need to be replaced with new days stayed.

Thank you for your reply. For applyinf for citizenship, is it reuired you complete three of the last four years or three of the past five years? Thanks again

It's currently 3 of the past 4 but they may be changing that in the future. It might become longer.

Thanks for the clear up. Longer than 3 years??

It certainly won't get shorter. It will either stay the same or get longer.
