Hi,
I have been following a lot of posts and has been very helpful. If some one could please let me know what I should do, it would be greatly appreciated.
I came in Canada in 2002 to study (Ph.D) and became a PR in June 2008 and expiry July 2013. But I got a post-doctoral opportunity in the US and I left in March 2009. I would have visited Canada in between for a total of 2 months. I moved back permanently to Canada and have a job in Quebec since Sept 2012. So, I only have a total 21 months. However, if I wait for extra 3 months before renewing I will lose the months in 2008. This means I would have to wait for another 1 yr before renewing. What should I do? Should I wait till 2014?
What are the legal complications of losing PR? Would I be asked to leave the country?

Anyone advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Definitely wait until you have 730 days out of the last five years before applying to renew your PR card. And yes - unfortunately this means you'll have to wait until next year.

The legal complications of losing PR is that you will no longer be allowed to live here, work here or study here without applying for a visa/permit. Depending where you're from (what passport you hold), you may require a visa to visit as well.
