Hi everyone,

First, I would like to thank everyone on this site for all the help you have given us over the last while. We are very thankful for this site.

As some of you know, my husband was ordered to leave Canada after his Restoration of Status was denied because CIC received it late. Our nerves were shot, my husband had to leave Canada last week, and try to re-enter.

We filed the PR Outland last Friday, and we left for the border the same day. We took a complete copy of the whole PR Outland application and fees paid to the border. Luckily we did. The OP officer told us to go to immigration, where they went through the whole package and asked us lots of questions about where I worked, where my husband lives. They also wanted the orginial marriage certificate. After long waiting, they finally gave my husband a 6 months Visitor card. It would expire if he leaves Canada.

We were soooo happyyyyy!!! They said he can now apply for a work permit, and if he would like to stay past the 6 months to make sure he applies for an extension while his PR is in progress.

Anyone that has to leave Canada I strongly suggest you bring a complete copy of your PR application with you, and all other proof of relationship.

I thought that we weren't going to get back in, but it is worth going to the border when asked to leave Canada. If you have all the right paperwork, and you started the PR application, you have a good chance of getting back in.

All the best to everyone on your journey to Canada.

Thank you all.

This is great news! I'm happy for you :)

I hope your PR application will be processed in less than 6 months. Just keep an eye on your visitor record expiration date and, if needed, try to do it online so you won't have to deal with any delays or lost packages, etc.
6 month visitor record will allow your husband to stay with you for Christmas! That's awesome! :)

Thanks!! HOpe all goes well with you too!

hi jim,

could you please shed some light on the PR outland thingy...and which border is it...the US one??

Yes, the US border, we went to Niagara Falls and crossed back into Canada. My husband is doing the PR outland application and living with us in Canada.

How is he able to apply for a work permit though?

That's what I want to know. :(

Also, am I the only person who doesn't have a full copy of their application? I only have my receipt!

What do you mean full copy? As in, you made copies of everything?? I didn't do that... just the receipt and original docs. Save the trees! ;)
It's good to be prepared in the event that something is lost or you need to resubmit but rather than photocoipying everything we will just deal with it as it comes. We did order an additional FBI though in case this was misplaced. Is this what you are referring to (fully copy of app)?

I'm going to scan everything before sending it.. I don't want to waste any more paper!

I copied EVERYTHING!, execpt photos. A full copy of the PR application and sponsorship, that is what I took to the border.

The IO said that he could apply for a work permit if he wanted to now that he has 6 months visitor paper. I don't know how though, we are doing an Outland PR, I thought he couldn't work in Canada while this was in process??

Yes, I was under that impression as well!! Please keep us up to date as my husband will be coming to visit and perhaps if we get a visitors record as well maybe he can apply for a permit. Please let us know how it works out!!

Sure will :) Good luck!

Hmm thats very interesting!. i see how he could apply for a work permit if he was applying "INLAND". but outland??/. Maybe he meant "INland"?. Because i know with an inland application, he can apply for a Open Work Permit and if his visitors status expires he can request an extension and he can work while his application is still in process.... interesting maybe they have a new law?/. I will read on it!..
