Hi,

I am a Canadian Permanent Resident since October 2011. I am planning on leaving Canada for 7 month due to the fact that i have some unfinished business overseas. I've heard from various people that I won’t be allowed back into the country if I am not physically in Canada for more than 6 months. Is that true ??
Is there anything I can do before leaving in order to make things easier when I am coming back?

There is no six month rule. You can leave for seven months and return without any issues (as long as you meet the overall residency requirement of living in Canada two out of every five rolling years).

There used to be a six month rule but this rule was removed quite some time ago.

Great!!! i can now leave with peace of mind.

Thanks for your prompt response!!

Cheers.
