Hi, I have a question that I hope is straightforward, but the answers I have seen online are mixed. I've been a PR since 2014, am a US citizen, and am married to a Canadian. They were just offered a job in the US and we will be moving there for an indeterminate period of time. Some sources have said that each day outside of Canada will be counted towards my PR status since I will be with my spouse. Is this accurate?

Thanks!

There was a huge discussion on this very topic several months ago

Based on several government sources and guides, it looks like that it should not matter whether the citizen spouse accompanies the PR, or vice versa, BUT several recent law cases have indicated otherwise, where the reasons why they left Canada do indeed matter.

It looks to me that if the citizen spouse is the one that has a reason to leave the country, and the PR spouse just comes along to join him/her, then they would have a much easier time to convince immigration than the other way around.

Thank you for that link! I will read through it. I've lived in Canada since 2009, so I hope that plus the fact that my Canadian spouse is the one with employment outside the country will be helpful.
