Hi,

My husband is a Canadian citizen. I'm a post graduate, currently working in Academia in the US. My PR is currently being processed in NDVO. I already have TRV. I'm planning to visit my husband in May. A friend of mine told me I won't even have to apply for OWP if I try to find job in University campus/research labs, etc. But i couldn't, for the life of me, find more info on that.

1. Will I need a OWP if I choose to work for University/Medical campuses?.
2. If i were to apply OWP for myself, do I have to apply within Canada or outside Canada (Indian National) or can my husband apply OWP permit on behalf of me?
3 If it has out to be outside, does it have to be same the VO where they are processing my PR
4. Would it affect my chance of getting PR, like more files on my name the longer it takes for them to process my case?.

Sorry about the question overload. Any info on this is highly appreciated.

PS: In all honesty i would like to take some time off during my visit and not having to worry about applying for jobs, etc. But my friends joke that i'd be bored within a couple of weeks without a job. :)

Many thanks

M

Hi

Don't take any more advice from that friend. You cannot simply stroll onto a campus in Canada and start working while you are a visitor. Also, you do not qualify for an OWP.

If you want to work in Canada before becoming a PR, you will need to find an employer willing to go through the LMIA process. If the LMIA is approved, you can then apply for a closed work permit.

oh my. I'm super glad I checked. Like always this forum helps me out tremendously. That explains the fact that why i wasn't able to find any info related to that. It says LMIA is valid only for 6 months, i may have to get a head start on things..

Thank you, Kindly.

M
