I am a Bipolar-I patient from Turkey, and I plan to apply for PR in Federal Skilled Worker Program. I wonder whether my illness will be a problem or not for my admission.
I had three manic episodes, and have been hospitalized once, for 17 days, 2.5 years ago. I don't have any criminal records. I am currently taking Lithium (900mg), Abilify (10mg), and Wellbutrin (150mg). My situation has become stable after hospitalization; I didn't have any problems other than depression since.
As far as I have researched, they can reject me based on the risk of causing a danger to public safety. The explanation on the official website is as the following:

Health conditions that are likely to cause a danger to public safety include serious uncontrolled and/or uncontrollable mental health problems such as:
  • certain impulsive sociopathic behaviour disorders;
  • some aberrant sexual disorders such as pedophilia;
  • certain paranoid states or some organic brain syndromes associated with violence or risk of harm to others;
  • applicants with substance abuse leading to antisocial behaviours such as violence, and impaired driving; and
  • other types of hostile, disruptive behaviour.

I can become paranoid during manic episodes but I don't have hostile behaviour. Also, I am not supposed to have manic episodes while I'm on medication. Do you think I can pass the medical exam?

You can also be denied because of the cost of care For example 17 days of hospitalization is expensive plus regular use of a psychiatrist. 2.5 years is rather recent of a hospitalization so I would expect a psychiatric evaluation. I would suggest getting a letter from your current psychiatrist about your mefical history, treatment and prognosis. Proof of continuous work or studies will Alleviate a lot of concern.
