Hello Experts,

I have question about what might happen when I join my family(wife and daughter) who meets permanent resident obligations of being in Canada2/5yrs but not citizens yet. I will be out of canada more than 3/5yrs due to job/business reasons and living in USA(non-citizen on visa).

Let us assume that after living Out of Canada for 4yrs(but family PR inside Canada) I show up at border crossing in Blaine, WA - with desire of staying in Canada for next 5 years and become citizen:
1) Will the CBP turn me back?
2) They will probably let me in because PR is still valid but they will notify the 'higher authorities'. What will the 'higher authorities' do? Find me and deport, or something else?
3) If they let me stay without arresting me and deporting, at the end of 5yrs(I being in Canada only for 1 year at that time)- can I continue to stay or they will search and deport me then?
4) When I have 2yrs stay in Canada, can I ask for 5yr PR extension based on fact my family is already meeting PR obligations all the time, or my wife has to sponsor me for PR while I can stay in Canada?

Really appreciate your expert opinions and many thanks for that!!

With regards,
Mike

1) No.
2) You can be reported as not meeting the Residency Obligations, leading to potential revocation of your PR status.
3) If you stay in Canada for the following 730 days, you will again meet the Residency Obligation.
4) Not sure what you mean here? You are either a PR or you are not. There is no "5yr PR extension" concept.

Don't think in "5 year blocks". That's not how the Residency Obligation works... Also, ignore the expiry date on your PR card, as it has NO bearing on whether you meet,or are able to meet, the Residency Obligation. It's a 1825 day rolling period, in which you must have spent, (or be capable of spending), 730 days in Canada (given your circumstances). It's counted forward from the day you "landed" or if you landed more that 1825 days ago, it's counted back from today.
