PR- Crossing border by Rent car

Hello

I am PR, but actually outside Canada.
I am planning to visit New York this Summer with my family, spend few days exploring NY touristic places before going to Ottawa to settle down.
- Using a NY Rent car (being Canadian PR not US citizen) to drop it in Ottawa next day, is that allowed for Canadian PR ?
Assuming all Rent papers/contract in order stating clearly the car destination:
- What problems/questions may we face at the US border to Canada with Rent car ?
- What problems/questions may we face at the Canadian POE with Rent car?
- What times to avoid the crowd at the border, long lines ?
