Hello everyone,

This question is regarding PR card renewal and the "PR Card Direct Mail-out Program?"

I understand the idea behind the program... most people are lucky and get the card mailed to them. What about the "unlucky" ones who are a chosen to go to the office in person?

1) What are the rules for someone who has to go pick up their card in person?
2) How much time are you given to go to the office after approval of your PR card renewal?

I'm a Canadian (born) who lives and works overseas. My wife will get her card renewed for sure, but we are just trying to plan ahead for us to get time off work to return home if we are told we have to pick up her card in person.

If you have any information that can help us, it would be greatly appreciate.

Thank you in advance to anyone that can help.

Not every one's PR cards are to be pick up from office by applicant. Usually the PR cards are mailed to applicant's Canada postal address. If the CIC office have any doubt about the presence of the person during the time of process they may ask to pick up. In such case, there will be a letter with instructions from where it should be collected in person. May require all original identifications like PR Card, passport, driver's licence if any together with any address proof like bank statement, telephone bill, recent CRA assessment record or what ever it may be.

1. The notification letter will provide details for what is needed to pick up the card.

2. 6 months. If it isn't picked up by then, the card is destroyed and the person must apply for renewal again.
