PR card going to expire but Citizenship application in progress from last 8 moths. Should I apply for PR card renewal?

Hello friends,

My Canadian PR card going to expire but my Citizenship application in progress from last 8 moths. Should I apply for PR card renewal? Any insights on this would be useful. [Edit] - Please note I'm planning to travel internationally next month. Based on below expiry date of PR card, will there be a problem in re-entry during Jan 1st week?

PR Card expiry date - May 2021
Citizenship application date - Feb 2020 and I hope I'll get Citizenship by March 2021

You don't need a new PR card unless you plan on travelling internationally.
