It may or may not be.

Usually US consulate checks if you have strong ties to canada like job, residence, basically they want to ensure that you don't move to usa.

They may or may not ask you to show your PR card. I don't remember them asking when i applied for my visa.

Also, expired pr card does not mean that you are no longer a pr however it may be a concern for them.

Did they ask you to bring PR card for interview?

They are asking for ID that proves that you are Canadian Resident. As you said, even PR is expired, i am still Canadian Resident. I just wanted to check what others fellows think.

Thank you.

Well, in that case, show them them the expired pr card if asked. Make sure your application has strong ties to Canada and be prepared to tell the same during the interview which is a big factor for getting US Visa.
In the meanwhile, apply to renew the PR card and take necessary documents for the interview to show that you have applied for PR card renewal. If officer has concerns about expired PR card, show the PR card renewal paperwork .
Be prepared to give legitimate reason for why didn't you renew PR card.

By the way, why didn't you renew your PR card?

Anyway, you need a PR card to return to Canada when you go to USA or outside Canada anywhere.

I have strong ties to Canada but I was mostly in U.S in last five years. I would not be able to renew PR because of that.

So, you were PR of Canada however working in USA on a work permit and then moved to Canada permanently after, is that the case?
Are you wanting to get a B1/B2 tourist visa?

If you don't meet the Residency Obligation, you should not be leaving Canada. You can be reported by CBSA when returning, which would result in the loss of your PR status.

Your family has strong ties in Canada bu you don't. Guessing it;s a work visa. You were lucky enough to not get reported but I assume you decided not to stay in Canada for 2 years.
