Hi there,
I've recently migrated to Canada and have my permanent residency. When I applied for my PR about 2 years ago I was told by the application process to provide my firstname/lastname as stated in my passport. My lastname has a special german character which is the ü. That character translates into ue in english. So on my passport my lastname has the ü but also mentions the lastname in english with ue at the bottom at the passport.
Now that my PR card has the special u on it, I've run multiple times into issues when singing up for things like the SIN, bank account or now a credit card. Everyone says they have to the the lastname as stated on the PR card but can't enter the ü into their system. Instead they claim "they have to use the u on their keyboard" and not the ue. Technically this is a different name and not my correct lastname as stated by my passport.
I'm soon (september) to get married to my Canadian partner and want to have my name on the PR card changed to ue as otherwise we'll get married with the wrong name and this will cause even more problems with the german authorities.
Does anyone know about a similar case and can give me some tips in how to get this changed with immigration? I do looked they name changing policies up online but it seems like this will be a lot of trouble.
Example:
German Lastname: Max Rüdiger
English Lastname: Max Ruediger
Thanks in advance!
