Hi,
I am a PR in Canada and have been for 17 years. My PR card expires next month and I am traveling to Mexico for a vacation. (I booked the trip before realizing that my PR card would be expiring which was careless of me) I will be flying into Vancouver from LA and I am wondering if I will be allowed to board in LA without a valid PR. My new PR application is in progress, but of course it takes several months to process. Am I able to use any other document to get me through immigration at YVR? I am carrying an Australian passport and I have my original record of landing. I am also a NEXUS card holder. Can anyone advise me on what my options are? Thank you.

Hi

You can board the plane on the strength of your Australian passport as if you are coming to Canada as a visitor. Don't mention your PR status to the airline; if you do, they may request your PR card and refuse to board you when you can't produce a valid card.

When you arrive in Canada, present yourself to CBSA as a PR and explain that you've applied for your new PR card but are still waiting. You won't have any issues.
