Hi there, I am a US citizen who became a PR in Jan/2012 based upon my marriage. I've had some health issues this year, and would qualify (doesn't mean I want to apply or will even listen to my sage GP's advice) for SSDI. My question is hypothetical, but somewhat important for peace of mind.

If I were to be receiving US SSDI benefits (of course based upon permanent disability), would they deny my Canadian citizenship application?

Many many thanks for all of your help. I can't figure this out with Google, nor a search here. I know I may receive SSDI and not live there, and even use medicals from any doctor (meaning my GP here in Canada) for my application, I'm just worried about the citizenship qualifications.

Thanks :-)

No impact to citizenship.

I agree.

Citizenship is based on being present in Canada for 1095 days in the last 4 years. Receiving old age or disability benefits from another country should have no bearing on being approved for Canadian citizenship. In fact, I don't see anywhere on the citizenship application where that question is even asked. However, I do see that at least one of the RQs asks whether you file a foreign tax return, in order to determine where you're really living. For U.S. citizens, though, that doesn't prove anything. U.S. citizens have to file tax returns no matter where in the world they reside.
