The requirements for an AEO are lower than for an LMO. With an LMO, the employer has to prove that he has advertised the job and he could not find a Canadian for it. What would make an employer offer you an AEO? He figures you would be an asset to his company.

An arranged employment opinion (AEO) is based on these factors :

* The job offer is permanent;
* The job offer is genuine;
* The wages and working conditions offered for the job are comparable to those offered to Canadians working in the occupation;
* The employment is full-time, not seasonal.

A company in Canada that doesn't have prior experience with foreign workers would probably not know much about AEO. Then you can give them the web address that I linked to above.

Thank you again, Leon. I have nothing but admiration for you for what you are doing for people including myself who are looking for sincere advice and guidance on this forum.

What I am wondering is why an employer would offer someone an AEO if one is going to work for him only after landing in Canada; that may be anywhere from one to one and half years or maybe more after getting an AEO.

Will any employer go all the way to help someone in getting an AEO knowing that the person will be useful only after one or one and half years? I am just curious. Maybe, if someone were already in Canada on work permit, an employer would be more forthcoming.

Will it be a good idea to come to Canada on visitor visa and look for employer for AEO?

I am a professional in advanced technology and plan to live and work in Canada for reasons other than money. But, unfortunately I am not in the list of 38 occupations.

Thanking you in advance for your time.

I don't think an AEO application will take that long. CIC promised 6-12 months. LMO's can in many cases take 6 months if you can even get one. They may suggest trying an LMO if they want you sooner but if they can't get one, they might try AEO.

When a company wants to hire a foreign worker and they feel they need that person, they can wait. If they don't do it, they would find themselves in a year in the same position, still needing that person.

Going to Canada as a visitor is a good idea. It's always better to do interview in person. Try to line up interviews before you go.
