Hi,

This forum had helped me a lot during our work permit application phase. Finally decided to register as I am in need of some specific help.

Both me and my wife came here last year on work permits (TFW) and now wish to apply to for our PRs (Economic - FSW Class). Both of us have permanent job offers from our respective employers. However just not sure how to fill in the application form so that it is apparent to the officials that we are both eligible to be principal applicants in our own right. It seems like if I am the principal applicant, I can add her as an accompanying spouse, but there is no section where I can provide information about her permanent job offer (or that she is already a TFW).

If we both apply separately as principal applicants, we end up duplicating work and information. And of course, paying double the fee. This is clearly not the way to go.

Has anyone ever been in such a situation? Or would be able to suggest the best way to go about it?

Thanks in advance.

One of you has to be the primary applicant and this is the individual who will have to show proof he/she has a job offer in Canada. The fact the other spouse has a job offer as well and could be the primary applicant is irrelevant.

Honestly, it really doesn't matter if both of you are eligible to be principal applicants. Spouses's job situation does absolutely nothing (other than award you extra points for work done in Canada) to help a PR application under FSW. So you can just decide which one of you will be the principal applicant and proceed accordingly. Whoever will have an easier time gathering all the documents necessary and/or have more points and/or whose job is more in demand can be the PA. Applying under an arranged employment category will almost guarantee you a PR, therefore there is no reason for both of you to apply as PA and waste money.

Thank you very much to both of you. We will proceed with the application with me as the PA.

Just another question though. It seems like the processing time is around 25 months in the FSW category. Is that correct, because I have heard of people applying under arranged employment getting their PRs in literally like a couple of months?

CIC has been very fast in processing recent (2013 and 2014) applications as they want to be done with all the current and old applications by the end of this year. So, your application will most likely (no guarantee though) be processed in a few months as opposed to the 25 months advertised. If not, you can always apply through express entry starting in Jan 2015, which is supposed to take no more than 6 months in processing time.
