Hello everyone,

I am currently working in Canada on a closed work permit and I have applied for PR under Express entry category. I will be completing one year in Canada this month and I would like to convert this application in CEC category. Regarding this, I have few questions. It would be great if you can guide me -
1. Do I need to create a new profile for converting Express entry application into Canadian Experience class application?
2. How much time approximately would it take to get my PR after I receive my ITA considering everything goes smoothly
3. I have renewed my Indian passport which has closed WP stamped and I have now received a new passport. Based on my understanding although visa is stamped on old passport, I should mention new passport details in my PR application. Please correct if my understanding is wrong.

Thanks in advance!

Can you clarify - "Express entry" is not a category - it is an application management system - CEC, FSW, CEC, FST - all three programs are managed under EE. So, have you actually applied for PR under... FSW? Or have you simply created your Expression of Interest Profile for express entry (this is NOT an application)?

If you have actually applied already, you cannot "convert" and you cannot have 2 applications at the same time under EE. You would have to wait until your application has completed processing; if not successful, you could then submit a new profile.

If you have only submitted a profile to date, you do not have to do anything. If you are eligibile under CEC and receive an ITA, it will be for CEC.

After you receive an ITA and submit your complete application, it will usually take up to 6 months in 80% of cases.

If you have renewed your passport, the new passport is the only valid passport. Yes, of course you use it.

Thank you so much for your response. I have filled my PR under FSW for now but I will be completing one year of experience and thus will be eligible for PR under CEC.
