Hi there,
My husband is Canadian and I am American, we got married 1 month ago and have started the PR application, just waiting for our marriage certificate, I just found out I am pregnant, what do I do about the medical exam, will I need an xray? will they do they xray? will I have to wait until after the baby?

You go in for the medical when they request it.
When you are pregnant, you go for medical, and the examiner will postpone the x-ray until you are no longer pregnant.

But does this mean that my application is postponed?

No just means it will delay your application. Until full meds are received.

Yah which means I won’t get my PR as soon and me and the baby won’t be able to live with my husband ?

What's the problem with taking a chest x-ray? It is safe for the woman and the baby, so why not taking it?

Or are women not allowed to take chest x-ray exams during pregnancy just for the medical exam CIC requires?

Basically you have two options.
1. You take the full medical exam, with the x-rays, which is safe according to doctors, since they give you a protective shield so it won't harm the baby.
2. You partially take the medical exam, everything but the x-rays. Then you tell immigration that you couldn't take the full medical exam. In this case, you would take the x-rays after the baby is born, then add him to the application, although it would be easy since he would be entitled to Canadian citizenship through your Canadian husband.

I thought the same thing that it would be okay but from everything I'm reading it looks like the physicians wont do the xray?

Pretty sure you can find one who does. If you want to know yourself, just call the physician where you would be taking your medical exam. This is fairly common, as the medical exam the United States requires for this type of situation require the x-ray exam, even for pregnant women, and they just have to wear some sort of protection so it's okay for the baby.

To clarify, being a Canadian citizen, the child would NOT be added to the app.

Some will and some won't. The place where I go for my appointments refuses until after birth. Consult the physicians near you if you and your doctor deem you're not worried about exposure I'm sure you can find someone. It can depend on how far along you are for some to complete the full exam with x-rays. If you choose to forego the chest x-ray til after delivery, you send it ASAP after the baby is born.

I was lucky enough to not have medical request before the baby, and would have declined x-ray until after birth anyway as personal preference. (still waiting PCC/Med request)
