Hello All,

I have a bachelor’s degree (4 years) from India, however, I wish to do a postgraduate diploma to enhance my CRS points. I intend to do this by choosing "two or more certificates, degrees or diploma" option, which will give me extra points, as I already have a four-year degree and I need a postgraduate diploma /certificate program. What's bothering me is whether WES will recognize it.
My questions:
- Will a 12-month postgraduate diploma stand a better chance of recognition by WES?
- What shall I do to get these crucial points?

Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, a PG diploma is recognized by WES /IQAS provided that the major and the institute you have chosen are both recognized.

After my B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, I did a 12 months PGD in Marine Engineering which was recognized by WES.

Thanks for the reply James. I have another query, does it matter if PG diploma has to be a regular one? Can it be a distance PG diploma?

Thanks in advance.

Hello everyone,

I have a four-year degree diploma for which I got "Postgraduate diploma (one year)" from WES evaluation.

I'm not sure which option I have to select in the CRS. I think: Bachelor's degree OR a three or more year program at a university, college, trade or technical school, or other institute.
But on the IRCC website, you can find in Assessment result (Canadian equivalency) for Three-year or more certificate, diploma, or degree plus a Postgraduate DiplomaTwo or more certificates, diplomas, or degrees in the CRS.

Could someone help me with this ?

Thank you.

So your 4 year diploma was given an equivalency of one year post grad? So do you have another 4 year degree to claim two or more certificates? If not, you claim one year diploma.

Yes

I only asked for the evaluation of my highest diploma as WES suggests it but actually I have a three year diploma (Bachelor equivalent) and another one (the one which got evaluated by WES) for my first year of Master (at that time, Masters didn't exist in my country, a 4 year degree gave you a Diploma)

So what do your ECAs for your bachelor and masters say?

I only sent my highest diploma (which has been evaluated as a Postgraduate diploma one year) as WES suggested it.

So if I understand well I should have sent my equivalent Bachelor's degree (three year diploma in my country) too so I'd had 2 ECAs from WES and I could have selected Two or more certificates, diplomas, or degrees in the Level of Education section.

So right now, with what I've received from WES, I can only choose : One-year degree, diploma or certificate from a university, college, trade or technical school, or other institute even if I studied 4 years at the university..

You need an ECA for your bachelors from WES with equivalency of three or more years to select the two or more option. Right now you can only chose "one year diploma." Or you can also submit at the same time your 4 year diploma (I think this is the Masters you are referring to) to another ECA and hope it is given an equivalent to a Masters. If a masters, you get more points than two or more.

Thank you for your help.

It's a bit annoying because WES specifically requests the highest diploma:
  • If your Maîtrise (that's what I have), Master, Diplôme d’Ingénieur, Diplôme de Grandes Ecoles, DEA, Diplôme d’Etat de Docteur en Médecine, or Diplôme d’Etat de Docteur en Pharmacie is your highest credential, then you do not need to submit your DEUG, DUT, or Licence (that's the first diploma I had, the Bachelor's degree equivalent).

Thank you for your help.

Correct. That is how WES operates and many times they don’t give a Masters equivalency so you need to use another ECA if you want that equivalency.
