Hi,

After graduating, I applied for my post graduate work permit. I did it right, within the time period you're supposed to and all that.

I applied August 22nd 2016, and online it stated about a 3 months waiting period, and implied status meant I could continue working so all was good.

At the end of December I made a decision not to go home for Christmas to see the family as it still hadn't arrived.

Towards the end of January, a close family member died and it really wasn't a question of going back or not. I left, thinking the permit must arrive. I'd checked the processing times perviously, and seen that they had upped it to 5 months waiting time, which should have been fine as January 22nd was looming.

Nothing arrived. I went home and lost implied status and my job, at a time when I really couldn't afford to do that. My partner and I ended up having to move in with his parents as I waited on my permit, and we are still planning on somehow paying for our wedding in July.

He then pressures his parliamentary rep to find out what's going on and it turns out that it won't be with me until the end of April or May 2016. This will be a staggering 8 months of waiting. It's not just the delay that has bothered me, it's the total lack of communication, and the total lack of acknowledgement of what's going on from talking to people face-to-face at immigration, and the consequences this has on people's lives.

Has anyone else had these kinds of delays and has any advice on how to hurry the process along? We are thinking of leaving Canada to go to the UK as it's been such an exhausting experience.
