I read on different threads on this forum about some applicants using MPs to inquire about the status of their application, or helping with 'speeding up' the process. Do they really help? and how do you go about getting them involved?

Hello soon2b, the MP's office cannot technically "speed up" your application; however, they can usually provide some assistance in getting a status update or reply from the overseas visa offices (VOs) if the applicant/sponsor are not hearing anything.

Of course the help they can provide varies widely depending on your MPs office, the skill/expertise of his/her staff, the cooperation (or lack thereof) from the VO abroad, the CIC posted processing times at the various VOs etc. etc. It is also the sponsor in Canada that has to initiate these requests. You can phone them, e-mail them or drop into their offices. If you have read the experiences of members on different threads then already know that some people get better results than others. Blessings.
